The Sarson One Name Study

I began researching my surname Sarson more seriously in 2016, following years of wondering if my family is linked into the family tree of Thomas Sarson, who founded 'Sarson's Vinegar' in 1794. I have not yet found the definitive link but continue to search.

My Sarson ancestors, so far, are all from London or Middlesex, England. There is, though, a very large concentration of families with the Sarson surname in the counties of Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Lancashire in England. The Sarson surname is also found in America, mainly in the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as Canada.

The aims of my study are:

* To collect and index all references to the surname Sarson worldwide

* To collaborate with other researchers of the Sarson surname and give whatever help I can

I am in the very early stages of my study and my initial focus is researching the Birth, Marriage and Death indexes of the Sarson surname particularly in London and Middlesex, before expanding my study further afield.

I am seeking references to the Sarson surname from all around the world, and am always interested to hear from people researching this surname or has an occurrence of this surname in their family tree.I will also be looking at the variant surname, Sarsons, as part of this study but not other variants at this time.

Sarson - One Name Study Tree

Hello! And welcome to the One Name Study (ONS) website of the Sarson surname.

I am Lucy Sarson and I have created this website in collaboration with the Guild of One Name Studies (https://one-name.org)

This tree currently has 1752 individuals in 371 different families, with 1432 having the surname of Sarson or Sarsons from across England, Wales and Ireland. 1423, or 81%, of all individuals are visible on this tree at this time as some are still living or death has not been confirmed and they are less than 110 years old.

It would be great to hear from you if you share the Sarson surname or have this surname in your family tree and would like to make a contribution to this project.

As part of my blog, I will do a short 'On this day' article featuring a member of the Sarson family.

On this day, 2 January, in 1902, Laurence Edgar Sarson was born. His date of birth is recorded on his Baptism entry, which took place on 16 March 1902, at St Mary's Church, Bow Road, Stratford Bow, Tower Hamlets, London, England [1]. He is the son of William, a Packing Case Maker, and Margaret Sophia Sarson (nee Morgon) of 11 Oregon Avenue, Romford Road. His birth was registered in the March Quarter of 1902 in the West Ham registration district [2].
